My Story
At 18, I bought an autographed football helmet signed by Steve Young from HyVee for $15 (worth about $500). I went to the store manager to get the certificate of authenticity, but instead, he accused me of stealing it or switching the price tags. Despite having the original packaging and receipt, the manager didn’t believe me. Eventually, I took legal action and represented myself in small claims court against the store and their corporate attorney. I won my case. I got the helmet back and proved its authenticity in court. This experience taught me the importance of standing up for what’s right, even when the odds are against you.
When I’m not passionately debating, I’m coaching baseball and softball. Sports have taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork, strategy, and resilience. My love of athletics is only overshadowed by my commitment to my family.
Insights & Experiences
I believe that any challenge can be overcome with hard work. I return phone calls promptly, stay in sync with clients, and regularly connect with opposing counsel. You will not find me unprepared, and when we’re in the courtroom, no one will have spent more time on your case than me.
Yes, I take my work seriously. But myself? Not so much. Laughter is my secret weapon to combat the rigors of the legal profession. When a case is won, I celebrate enthusiastically. If lost, I learn from my defeats. And I try to find humor in the chaos. Life is too short to be too serious. As we begin this journey together, know I live by the motto: ‘Take your work seriously, but not yourself.’
